Fabric shrinkage has a direct and practical impact on exports. First, it affects the dimensional stability of finished garments. If the fabric shrinks significantly after washing, it is easy to cause the finished garment to deform or not match the size, which in turn leads to customer complaints, returns and even claims. In international trade, such issues are particularly sensitive. Brand customers or garment factories are very strict about size control, so it is necessary to provide a shrinkage test report before shipment, or pre-shrinkage treatment according to customer requirements.
Shrinkage is also related to customers' trust in suppliers. If the shrinkage of the fabric affects the quality of subsequent finished products, customers often question the supplier's quality control, which affects subsequent cooperation. Some customers even explicitly require in the purchase contract that the shrinkage should not exceed a certain range, otherwise they will be liable for breach of contract. Therefore, clearly indicating the relevant technical parameters when shipping and communicating the test results in advance can effectively avoid disputes.
In addition, some countries have strict quality inspection standards for imported textiles, including indicators such as dimensional stability and changes after washing. If the shrinkage of the fabric does not meet the standards, it may be rejected at the time of customs entry or quality inspection, causing economic losses. Especially when exporting highly absorbent fabrics such as cotton, viscose, T/C, this type of risk needs more attention. In contrast, synthetic fibers such as polyester and nylon have a smaller shrinkage rate, but they also need standardized testing.
In order to ensure that the fabric is stable and reliable during the export process, it is recommended to conduct standard washing tests (such as ISO 6330) before leaving the factory, and organize the test results into documents and provide them to customers. If necessary, shaping or pre-shrinking finishing can also be arranged to improve the overall quality stability and customer satisfaction.
